ΝΑΥΤΙΚΟΣ ΟΜΙΛΟΣ ΘΕΣΣΑΛΟΝΙΚΗΣ 13 ΙΟΥΝΙΟΥ 2007

Η τελευτάια επιστημονική συνεδρίαση της ΟΥΕΒΕ πραγματοπιήθηκε στη αίθουσα του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Θεσσαλονίκης. Μετά το πέρας της συνεδρίασης ακολόυθησε συμπλήρωση φύλλου αξιολόγησης απο τους ειδικευόμενους που αφορούσε το εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα καθώς και τους εκπαιδευτές. Τα αποτελέσματα στάλθηκαν σε όλους τους ενδιαφερόμενους.
Η συνάντηση έκλεισε με με δείπνο προσφορά του ΚΕΝΤΡΟΥ ΛΙΘΟΘΡΥΨΙΑΣ ΒΟΡΕΙΟΥ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ.

Η Ελληνική Ουρολογική Εταιρεία Διοργάνωσε στη Θεσσαλονίκη απο 23 εως 27 Απριλίου 2007, τη 2η σειρά Μαθημάτων Ουρολογίας '' Εκπαιδευτική Εβδομάδα Ελληνων Ειδικευομένων Ουρολογίας '' γνωστή και ως ''Εβδομάδα Ειδικευομένων'' . Τα μαθήματα έγιναν στην αίθουσα της ΟΥΕΒΕ και σε αυτή συμμετείχαν 52 ειδικευόμενοι. Χορηγός της Εκδήλωσης ήταν Η Φαρμακευτική Εταιρεία Astellas Hellas. Εκπαιδευτές ήταν Έλληνες συνάδελφοι με ιδιαίτερη εμπειρία στο θέμα που ανέπτυξαν.
Το βραδυ της 23ης Απριλίου ο Καθηγητής Ουρολογίας του ΑΠΘ , κος Δ. Ραδόπουλος δεξιώθηκε τους ειδικευόμενους, ομιλητές ,τα μέλη ΔΣ της ΟΥΕΒΕ και την ομάδα της ASTELLAS Hellas, στο Steak house ''Block House'' .Κατά την διάρκεια του δείπνου ο κος Β.Ρώμπης Αντίπρόεδος της ΕΟΕ, απένειμε βραβείο στον πρόεδρο της εταιρείας Astellas Hellas για τη συνεχή στήριξη της εταιρεία σε θέματα εκπαίδυσης των Ελλ΄ήνων Ουρολόγων.

Dear Course Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen!

Good afternoon. It is with great satisfaction and also at the same time sadness that we have now come to the final stage of this course. I would first like to extend my hearty welcome and gratitude to all of you here for participating in Thessaloniki’s ICS Educational course. The course has been attended by 256 physicians from around the world, and sponsored by 17 Pharmaceutical Companies.?

The main objective was to organize a meeting for experts coming from different regions of the world who deal with Urodynamics, Urogynaecology, Neurology and more- We have organized a meeting for various disciplines in medicine in order to prove that Urodynamics is a multidisciplinary and multisectoral issue.

I believe that we have achieved these aims. Furthermore, I hope that you share my opinion that the course, regarding its scientific content, was effective and of high quality. Also providing a chance for all participants to share their knowledge and experience.

I would like to thank all participants who took part in the course. I would like to thank the host and the sponsor institutions for their support. I would like to thank Avicia Burchill for the kind attention she gave to the course and the Kenes staff for their great work also. Furthermore, I would like, to say thanks to my colleagues, and especially to Mr Rombis for his active support.

Finally, I would like to express my thanks and most sincere gratitude to Prof. Cordozo for choosing Thessaloniki for this course.

I strongly believe that similar courses must be organized in the future to promote interaction and dialogue between professionals and experts alike, in order to be able to continue contributing to the health and well-being of our patients.

Good evening

I am delighted to be here tonight, enjoying such excellent company. It has been an honour for my Clinic and me to co-organize this course, and I would like to thank Professor Cardozo for giving us such a wonderful opportunity for getting together.
I would also like to express our thanks to Astellas Pharmaceuticals and to Stella Gavala in particular for so generously sponsoring both the course and this wonderful evening.
I would also like to say a word of heartfelt thanks to Avicia Burchill, in recognition of all she has done to make this course a success.
Linda Gardozo has been a distinguished Professor of Urogynaecology at King’s college in London since 1994.
She served as the Chairman of the British Society of Urogynaecology during the years 2001-2006. She is currently the Chairman of the Education Committee of the ICS.
She was the co- chairman of the International Consultation on Incontinence on several occasions and is again in this year.
She is also the Fellows International Representative for the council of RCOG.
Her dedication to the great work of medicine, is not only demonstrated by her undisputed level of recognition in both academia and the active field of practising Medicine, but also via her assistance and training of others at the subspecialty training centre for Urogynaecology recognized by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1996.
In 1983 she was the first senior registrar ever to be elected to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Council. She is also on the editorial board of several highly-respected peer-reviewed journals.

To be honest, I have had to select a minimal proportion of Professor Gardozo’s achievements in this brief tribute, otherwise Professor Gardozo may have to wait far too long for Dr. Rombis to present her, with this highly deserved award.
To sum up, her large-scale contribution is characterized by the fact that, we are all here tonight, celebrating the noble purpose of this educational course.

Βράβευση Kαθηγητού Ουρολογίας Κυρίου Γ. Μπαρπαλιά

Ladies and Gentlemen.
Prof. George Barbalias was born in Athens.

He graduated from the Medical School of the National University of Athens in 1968, and got his PhD in 1977.
He worked in the States from 1968, serving in several positions one of which was as Director of Urodynamics at New England Medical centre, in Boston.
Among his many titles, was that of Adjunct Professor of Urology at the Tufts University, School of Medicine.
George Barbalias was Professor of Urology at the Medical school both of Patras and Athens University from 1984 – 2006

A distinguished expert in the world of medicine, he has been a Urologist educator and clinician, while he has also contributed numerous publications to Urology literature.

Having taught for years, he has won teaching awards from different medical schools and the National Associations for Academic Urology.

He is nationally known in the areas of Urodynamics and Female Urology and his is the FATHER of the Hellenic Section of Neurology Urodynamics and Female urology, which was established in his tome.

For his great experience as a teacher and his scientific offering, he is placed among the most distinguished members of the Urological society.

In appreciation for all of your years of dedicated service and outstanding accomplishments please accept this award!

Η Κλινική μας , διοργανώνει από το 1989 και κάθε χρόνο ένα Εκπαιδευτικό Σεμινάριο που σκοπό έχει την προσφορά γνώσης στους νέους συναδέλφους και την ανάπτυξη κοινωνικών σχέσεων μεταξύ όλων μας.

Αυτή τη χρονιά έχουμε την χαρά να σας αναγγείλουμε το νέο Εκπαιδευτικό Σεμινάριο που θα γίνει στην Θεσσαλονίκη, στις 11-12 Μαΐου, από την Διεθνή Εταιρεία εγκράτειας (International Continence Society-ICS) σε συνεργασία με την Ουρολογική Κλινική του Ιπποκράτειου Νοσοκομείου, του τμήματος ΟΝΟΓΟ και υπό την αιγίδα της Ελληνικής Ουρολογικής Εταιρείας. Χώρος του Σεμιναρίου έχει επιλεγεί το ξενοδοχείο Macedonia Palace.

H ICS ιδρύθηκε το 1971 και σήμερα αριθμεί περισσότερα από 2000 μέλη από 70 διαφορετικές χώρες. Μεταξύ αυτών συγκαταλέγεται μεγάλος αριθμός Ελλήνων συναδέλφων. Η ICS διοργανώνει κάθε χρόνο δυο Εκπαιδευτικά Σεμινάρια (Barcelona Νοέμβριος 2005, Sao Paolo Ιούλιος 2006, Beijing Σεπτέμβριος 2006, Abu Dhabi Ιανουάριος 2007) και τον Μάιο του 2007 στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Στόχος είναι να δοθεί η δυνατότητα στους νέους συναδέλφους της ευρύτερης περιοχής της Νοτιοανατολικής Ευρώπης να παρακολουθήσουν μια υψηλού επιπέδου εκπαιδευτική συνάντηση που αφορά στην εκπαίδευση και προώθηση τους σε θέματα όπως Αρχές Ουροδυναμικής, Καλοήθης Υπερπλασία Προστάτου, Διαταραχές του Πυελικού Εδάφους, Γυναικοουρολογία, Νευροουρολογία, Υπερδραστήρια Κύστη και άλλα θέματα

Στο Σεμινάριο συμμετέχουν 12 Ξένοι και 15 Έλληνες ομιλητές, ειδικοί στα θέματα που θα αναπτυχθούν. Συντονιστής του Σεμιναρίου είναι η Prof. Linda Gardozo και τοπικός συντονιστής ο Κος Σταύρος Χαραλάμπους. Η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή πριμοδότησε με 10 credits το Σεμινάριο.

My Clinic annually holds an education Symposium since 1989. Three of these
symposiums have as topics Neurodynamics, BPH, Urodynamics, and Female
Incontinence. Also in cooperation with the Gynaecologist we have workshops in incontinence with live surgeries the last 3 years.

I am delighted to announce our annually course in association with International Continence Society, in Thessaloniki Greece, next May 2007.
This course is aimed at young medical and allied health professionals who may experience difficulty obtaining funding to attend the annual meeting and is open to ICS members and non-members. We’ve designed this course to encourage discussion between local and foreign experts in urinary incontinence, urodynamics, physiotherapy and other fields.

Thessaloniki, the capital of Northern Greece, Greece's second largest
city, has a history of more than 2300 years. Archaeological finds witness the
position of Thessaloniki in the Macedonian Empire of Alexander the Great.
Thessaloniki was the second most important city of Byzantium.
Extraordinary monuments reflecting its brilliant past, including beautiful Byzantine
churches can be seen throughout the city. Thessaloniki provides an
unrivalled place for such scientific events thanks to its economic and
cultural richness, its gateway to the Holy Mount Athos
and to the beautiful Chalkidikis coasts. Macedonia airport of Thessaloniki
is serviced by most airlines, so it is easy to fly to Thessaloniki from any
major city. Twenty minutes are required from airport to city centre.

Therefore we look forward to welcoming you and enjoy the opportunity of
sharing your knowledge in the field of incontinence and Urodynamics etc.

Η Ουρολογική Κλινική του Ιπποκρατείου Νοσοκομείου Θεσσαλονίκης αισθάνεται υπερήφανη για την φιλοξενία και συντονισμό του International Educational course της ICS, που πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη τον Μάιο του 2007. Η επιτυχία του Σεμιναρίου ξεπέρασε τις προσδοκίες ολονών, γεγονός που φαίνεται απο την πολύ μεγάλη συμμετοχή τόσο Ελλήνων όσο και ξένων συναδέλφων.
Η πολυθεματική του πλοκή έφερε κοντά συναδέλφους απο διάφορες ειδικότητες με αποτέλεσμα να δημιουργηθεί μια υψηλού επιπέδου ανταλλαγή απόψεων και γνώσεων.

Live Surgery Ά Πανεπιστημιακής Ουρολογικής Κλινικής ΑΠΘ

Στις 28 Μαρτίου 2007 η Ά Πανεπιστημιακή Ουρολογική Κλινική του ΑΠΘ διοργάνωσε LiveSurgery που το μετέδωσε στην αίθουσα της ΟΥΕΒΕ.
Θα ήθελα να σχολιάσω ότι επρόκειτο για μια πολύ αξιέπαινη ενέργεια να παρουσιαστεί το έργο της Κλινικής ζωντανά μέσα από την καθημερινή πράξη.
Η επιτυχία της εκδήλωσης φάνηκε και από την μεγάλη συμμετοχή των συναδέλφων που το παρακολούθησαν από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος.
Συγχαρήκαμε όλοι τον Καθηγητή Κον Δ. Ραδόπουλο για την ιδέα του.
Προσωπικά πρότεινα να γίνει μια τέτοια εκδήλωση με συμμετοχή όλων των Κλινικών της Θεσσαλονίκης και όχι μόνο.
Αυτή η ιδέα εν μέρει φαίνεται στο πρόγραμμα του 6ου Μακεδονικού Ουρολογικού Συμποσίου.

What is pediatric Urology

Pediatric urology is a surgical subspecialty of medicine dealing with the disorders of children's genitourinary systems. Pediatric urologists provide care for both boys and girls ranging from birth to early adult age. The most common problems are those involving disorders of urination and testes

Some of the problems they deal with are:

• Bladder control problems such as enuresis and daytime urinary incontinence
• Undescended testes (cryptorchidism)
• Hypospadias
• Urolithiasis (bladder and kidney stones)
• Chordee and other minor malformations of the penis
• Phimosis
• Urinary obstruction and ureteral reflux
• Neurogenic bladder (e.g., associated with spina bifida)
• Tumors and cancers of the kidneys
• Repair of genitourinary trauma
• Genitourinary malformations and birth defects
• Prune belly syndrome
• Cloacal exstrophy, bladder exstrophy, and epispadias
• Ambiguous genitalia and intersex conditions

Workshop 15 Μαρτίου 2007

Η Ουρολογική Κλινική του Ιπποκρατείου Nοσοκομείου Uεσσαλονίκης διοργάνωσε workshop με προσκεκλημένο τον Dr. Menahem Neuman Urogynegologist , Jerusalem, Isarael. Διενεργήθηκαν 8 χειρουργικές επεμβάσεις σε γυναίκες με ακράτεια ούρων απο προσπάθεια. τοποθετήθηκε ταινία ΤΕΤ TVT Secur. Τα χειρουργεία παρακολόυθησαν και έλαβαν μέρος 15 συνάδελφοι Ουρολόγοι και Γυναικολόγοι. Εκπαιδευτές ήταν οι κκ. M. Neuman, Β. Ρώμπης Ι. Τσαφέτας και Σ. Χαραλάμπους. Του χειρουργείου προηγήθηκε διάλεξη απο τον κύριο Neuman με θέμαTVT to TVT-S.
Η όλη εκδήλωση ήταν χορηγία της Ξohnson &Johnson στα πλαίσια της συνεχούς ιατρικής εκπαίδευσης.
Απο τις επαφές με τους συναδέλφους που το παρακολουθησαν αποκόμισα άριστες εντύπωσεις.
Πιστεύω ότι τέτοιου είδους εαίδευση είναι το ζητούμενο στην εποχήμας και θα το επιδιώξουμε σαν Κλινική. Παρακολουθήστε ένα μικρό απόσπασμα απο την τοποθέτηση του TVT-S

What is Female Urology

What is Female Urology?
It is a sub-specialty of Urology that focuses on urinary and genital disorders in women.

 What are some of the common Female Urology problems?
1. Urinary incontinence. Urinary incontinence (involuntary loss of urine), is NOT a normal part of ageing. Approximately 40% of women above 50 years old are affected and effective treatment is available. Therapies for incontinence include pelvic floor exercises, bladder drills, medication, endoscopic per-urethral injections and surgery. The common surgeries for incontinence performed by Urologists include tension free vaginal tape, AND trans-obturator tape.
2. Pelvic organ prolapse may present with urinary symptoms e.g. incontinence and voiding difficulties, or bowel symptoms e.g. constipation. They may complain of vaginal fullness or mass, or painful intercourse. Pelvic organ prolapse can coexist with stress urinary incontinence and surgery can correct both problems at the same sitting.
3. Overactive bladder is when the bladder is not as relaxed as it should be. Treatment may include: Medications, Bladder retraining, Sacral nerve stimulation 4. Voiding disorders
4. Urinary tract infections 20% of women (1 in 5) acquire a UTI at some point in her life. Of these, 20% will experience recurrent infections. Anatomical factors and physiological changes e.g. menopause predispose women to UTIs. Additional disorders within the urogenital tract e.g. urinary stones, pelvic organ prolapse and voiding dysfunction increase the risk.
5. Urological problems in pregnancy
6. Painful bladder syndromes (Internial cystitis)
7. Urinary fistulae (Vesicovaginal fistulae)
8. Sexual dysfunction

Any woman with complaints related to the urinary or genital tracts e.g. urinary frequency, urgency, incontinence, difficulty passing urine, dysuria, haematuria, vaginal mass and problems with sexual intercourse should seek medical help.
